IBM InfoSphere DataStage is an ETL tool and part of the IBM Information Platforms Solutions suite and IBM InfoSphere. It uses a graphical notation to construct data integration solutions and is available in various versions such as the Server Edition, the Enterprise Edition, and the MVS Edition. It uses a client-server architecture. The servers can be deployed in both Unix as well as Windows.

It is a powerful data integration tool, frequently used in Data Warehousing projects to prepare the data for the generation of reports.

ETL Tool

An ETL tool is used to design and populate a target data warehouse. It facilitates the extraction, transformation, and loading of application-specific data from the source database into the target data warehouse. It helps you construct a source model that describes the rules for querying the source database.

You can use an ETL tool of your choice or use IBM® InfoSphere® DataStage® to create and execute custom ETL jobs. If you choose to use InfoSphere DataStage, the required licence is provided along with IBM Sterling Selling and Fulfillment Foundation.

The project files from Cognos® Adaptive Warehouse are included in <BI_COGNOS_HOME>\Exports\aw-export\sterling data source export. These files can be used by InfoSphere DataStage or any other ETL tool of your choice to migrate the ETL scripts from Cognos Adaptive Warehouse to the new ETL tool.
